PANIC IN THE USA

Days have been long, nights have been full out here. The weirder the road gets the better it is at this stage of the game. But I’m feeling a little flat and wasted this morning. Glad I’m not the kind of person that wears sweatpants. I might not have the energy to get out of them. But honestly, these marine drill like tours of duty are morphine for my psyche. It’s hard to feel anything or think about anything when you’re yelling “HURRY THE FUCK UP! PLEASE. JUST. DRY. ALREADY!” at a sock that won’t, thanks to a seriously underpowered hairdryer in some greasy room out by the motorway. [And keep in mind, you’re doing this while you KNOW the band is waiting in the lobby feeding and watering their resentments]. But what can a poor boy do? Walk around in nasty socks even a bass player would throw away? All in all, I think we’ve been having a decent time. Good times all over really. UK, Ireland (with our team mascot John Murry on campus!), Vienna, and beyond. Had a real cool time in Belgrade. Belgrade, people! It was off the hook. I swelled with pride when I saw what looked like a thousand empty plastic beer cups on the floor when we were packing up. It was like someone else’s gig! And if I had to pick between a gig like that, and well, barricading myself inside our apt. pretending I’m not home every time the door bell rings…. Okay, I’d still have to go with the barricading (but only if I could throw in some episodic TV binging), but seriousness aside, the band is playing great. Really loving having our newest member Vicente Rodriguez, straight outta San Antonio, drive us from behind the drums. So, that’s about it.

Panic In The Temple Tour Spring 2013:

Folks,

Happy to announce a mess of tour dates. Me and the Mission Express are heading out - out of your in-box and into your field of vision - live, loud and in (((full color sound))) . . . Over Here, Over There and All Points In Between. Chicago to San Francisco, London to god-only-knows, Berlin to Budapest, Belgrade to Bergamo But wait. There. Is. More. Brighton to Bury, been-there-done-you-can-still-buy-the-T-shirt-to-prove-it.

The Panic In The Temple Spring 2013 Tour is just around the corner. But first, there’s a special rent party gig in SF. A rare Chuck and Stephanie duo gig in SF March 23rd. Deets at: https://www.facebook.com/events/338464182938124/

Who says we’re hanging it up? We’re not even hanging up our clothes! I swear if I knew how to operate this iPod touch I’d take a picture right now and show you the neat stack of all-weather gear on a chair right now, waiting for the boarding call.

If you’ve never visited our fair city, you’ll just have to take my word for it when I tell you there’s more to it than fancypants coffee shops run by hipster dufuses with strips of bacon tattooed on their johnsons. In fact, dig this: right here in our very kitchen there’s a basil plant on the windowsill, and I may pick a few leaves before I start supper. Got to keep in shape.

Alright, enough cultural anthropology . . . Please do join us for the Panic In The Temple Tour Spring 2013. People, there are a lot of gigs to choose from. Choose from column A, B or C and dig in. And no, we’re not doing SXSW this year. [But I am reminded about when Dan Stuart moved to Austin and said the Tex-Mex cuisine was just Velveeta and ground beef but the music was pretty great and we should all move there. There really wasn’t anything left to the band at that point but I still thought about it. Before too long Dan’s Austin bromance passed and he was run out of town. ANYWAY: here we are. And Dan? Living down in Mexico, keeping it real in ways you can’t even imagine. (Or could, but probably shouldn’t) And we’re still here in San Francisco trying to get it right. Whatever “it” is.]

Okay? Still scrolling down? Here’s a piece of advice for all the poor musicians that complain about lack of wifi on the road (you know who you are): Cut a kiwi fruit in half and look at it. Look hard. Then put down that jesusPhone, stop what you’re doing and write a postcard. You definitely DO want to try that at home.

Onwards,

-CP
