...We rolled out of Frisco before dawn, White behind the wheel. DePrato waltzing the nod. The girl stared out the window at either the past or the future. Snowflake, busy filling the lighters with Zippo juice. I was cleaning the gun. Somebody was mumbling what I was thinking and maybe I came out of a dream. Somebody counting down a song. One, two - might have ended at four. Maybe I ought to be in a sanitarium. Maybe I already was. I oiled the rag and polished the barrel….
