May We Have Your Attention Please

Dear Friends,

I’m sorry we had to cancel some gigs. But, we wanted to give our “family crisis” immediate attention. I’ve been diagnosed with lymphoma. And yes, it’s a serious illness, but I’m getting great care with Kaiser Permanente and met with my oncologist today and the prognosis is good. In fact, the Doctor says I can go out and play some shows. But to wear a mask. Which is fine with me. Because I’ve discovered that it’s hard for people to tell you’re crying with a mask on.

The love and support from Stephie and my family, friends and bandmates has meant everything to me.

I look forward to seeing you. Check here for updates on shows: www.chuckprophet.com/gigs

Expect short-term disruptions and one helluva make-up tour.

Love to all,

- CP

DOINGS AND UNDOINGS

Folks,

Welcome back. First off a couple of heads up in gigsville. We recently announced new and re-scheduled dates with the Mission Express in Portland, Seattle, Houston, Milwaukee, Evanston and Venice; as well as a solo show in Tucson on March 24th. And Over There we’ve added June 2nd at the Red Rooster Festival in the UK and June 5th at the Ribs & Blues Raalte in Holland. And a Paris date, too. We’ve been away from Over There for something like five years. Did you miss us? We missed you. God have we ever missed you. Tickets and more details here: http://chuckprophet.com/gigs

Now thanks to modern advancements in medicine, we’ve got this subscription model newsletter over on Substack for some longer form writings complete with HTML. Moving forward that will be the home for essays, musings, photo’s, ephemera and the like. We’ve been having fun. Sign up or learn more here: https://chuckprophet.substack.com

I’m still doing the Trip In The Country Show on Gimmecountry.com when I can make it. Two hours of hand-picked jams curated by yours truly. Along with special guests. Tune in to this week’s show with Elvis Costello. Don’t be scared, it’s hardly limited to Country music. We’re just hanging out listening to records here: https://www.gimmecountry.com/#/welcome

You heard right. This week’s special guest on TITC is Elvis Costello. Elvis and I talk about used record stores, Country music from The Byrds to Gram Parsons to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Trio. Young Elvis singing a duet with George Jones on a song Elvis left off his first LP at Nashville’s RCA Studio B no less, the original crime scene of everything from Marty Robbins, to Blonde on Blonde, the other Elvis and more. We talk about Elvis’s latest LPs and upcoming tour dates as he shares his deep knowledge of music and geography and record production from the Specials to the Pogues, to The Squeeze, from Merseyside, to the Motor City, to Miami and beyond.

Meanwhile in merchville. A couple interesting things. You can order No Other Love on vinyl for the first time from New West Records here: http://newwst.com/nootherlove

And over at Bandcamp, there’s the all new Land That Time Forgot Revisited EP. That’s right. Four unreleased tracks recorded live with a string quartet on a linoleum floor on a rainy Tuesday afternoon in an empty barroom in San Francisco’s Mission District. Three titles from The Land That Time Forgot reimagined plus a Lita Ford cover that has to be heard to be believed. For us it was a new way into the songs—and an adventure finding our way out. A PORTRAIT OF TERROIR

Hey folks,

Today is Bandcamp Friday. And we’re releasing the all new Land That Time Forgot Revisited EP. That’s right. Four unreleased tracks. Three titles from The Land That Time Forgot reimagined, plus a Lita Ford cover that has to be heard to be believed.

Now listen, I know a little bit about how to craft a studio LP. But recording the acoustic Mission Express live with a string quartet on a linoleum floor on a rainy Tuesday afternoon in an empty barroom in San Francisco’s Mission District is something different. For one thing there is an actual “arranger.” Like Nelson Riddle. Or what Randy Newman does, adding his own secret sauce. In our case we have Austin Hoke to thank for the charts. So this EP ain’t your run of the mill stocking stuffer. It’s something more. For us it was a new way into the songs—and an adventure finding our way out. Here’s the Bandcamp link to the EP. Oh and by the way, Bandcamp doesn’t take a penny on Bandcamp Friday so do us a favor and download with extreme prejudice.

And dig this: No Other Love is now on vinyl for the first time outside of Germany. New West is proud to release this record on limited edition red splatter vinyl. More on this later. You can pre order yours now, here.

And in Merchville: Chuck Prophet socks are now available in the online store. These socks are killing. And would you believe that every sock is organically raised and ethically sourced? Me neither. But, they are super stylish and cozy AF. The perfect item to keep those tootsies warm in cold weather. Get a pair for yourself and another pair or two for loved ones this holiday season. Order yours now from the official Chuck Prophet Store.

We are also offering 30 Limited edition photos by Lauren Tabak. Is it a landscape? Is it a band photo? It’s a bandscape! A portrait with terroir! Yours Truly & the Mission Express photographed by Lauren in the misty dawn in front of Seal Rocks in late June 2021. Yes June. Go ahead. Say it. Say what? You know what Mark Twain said. Better yet buy it. Limited edition of 30 available to be signed sealed and delivered with a kiss with love from me to you.

Onwards,

-Chuck
