WM3 Benefit - Great NightHey folks, quick note on the WM3 benefit at GAMH last Saturday. Chuck & the ME (with new drummer - first gig with CP; nice job) performed a short relaxed set (in attitude only; the place rocked). I think CP & Co. enjoy these local benefits - good vibes, good music buddies, not too far from the Duboce Triangle. The surprise was a new piece by Ms. Stephanie. I don't know if it was an original or a cover (chime in Steph), but it was received enthusiastically by the receptive audience. Maybe the bellwether of a Go Go round two. The set was (if my feeble memory serves...): Bow Down, You Did, Age of Miracles, Steph's Tune, Summertime Thing (old version), WM Moon, Primo, Automatic Blues (minus "Rocketship...."). Let me go right the heart of it: Primo was reworked with a very cool new bounce. I hope you get chance to hear this great new version. The usual straight-forward rocker rhythm was cut up ever so slightly and the swing was shifted to a new groove. Little openings appeared that gave compelling new structure: my dancing shoes could not ignore. It fit the band well, and Kevin was just bopping to beat; Tom and CP had great interplay. Love to hear more reworks... and more CP & ME in SF, CA. The overall event was very good with a good-sized receptive audience. It opened with intro videos of the WM3, friends and supporters. A local ex-pol gave a very good overview of the complex issues of the case. Tarnation performed a great set. CP performed. Jonathan Richman spoke in Jonathan style and offered up an a cappella version of I Love New York (is that the name?) - even though he is on voice rest. Mark Kozelek ended the night with elegant, ethereal guitar and moody, brooding songs... very interesting stuff.... And somebody won the guitar. |

Summer and/or Fall Tour Dates?Any chance that there will be a tour this summer or fall (and coming to Pittsburgh)? Its been almost a year since I've seen a Chuck Prophet/Mission Express concert and while I go out to hear live music once or twice a week, there is nothing like seeing Chuck and friends live! Also, I second the post about the DVD - it would help me through these periods when I don't have the pleasure of seeing you live. |
