Roepean

Agreed. Chuck Prophet, Friday, Eliza Gilkyson, Sunday and Matt the Electrician, Sunday. This is a cool club in this town with a tiny population. [Nerd Alert] They even have their own Saint, Saint Norbert of Gennep. [being chocked and gagged now]

Amsterdam

Looks like it's 48 degrees F and rainy there. Hope you can find some good eats. We have a food place here in DC called Amsterdam Falafel and it's pretty good. Stay warm and dry.

Den Trap Kortrijk

Great performance yesterday in Den Trap in Kortrijk. Great to have seen you, so good you come to small clubs like this too. Actually never been so close to an artist, really at arms' length (being in the front row). My teenage daughters loved it too!

Record Store Day Kizmet

Went to a local record store on Saturday that I rarely shop. Elizabeths in Columbus, OH. Great shop but a bit out of the way for me. Owner was doing 20% off and out of habit, I checked the P section for some Chuck (I ALWAYS find nuthin') and lo and behold, a nice copy of "The Hurting Business"!!! I buy it and a couple nice Joe Ely albums and as I'm leaving, I get an e-mail from Chuck about RSD! Weird.

Autobahn

Thinking of that Kraftwerk song, since you're over there. Bon, Bon, Bon with the Autobahn. No, I don't think so. Any speed of 20mph is pretty scary.

‘The Left Hand…’ numbered vinyl 7”

Think this question got buried in the Winchester thread, does anyone know about the B-side 'I call your name', a CP composition...from TB sessions or elsewhere?

Yes, it's a TB outtake.

Exactly right, Stevie! We were listening to a lot of Jim Carroll (R.I.P.) at the time it came to be.

Levon Helm - Final stages of Illness

Levon's health at the moment. A real shame to hear. He's definitely formed part of my musical soundtrack. Love and gratitude in abundance from me.

Sadly, Levon finally Passed away. One of my favourite vocalists and musicians who along with other members of 'The Band' crafted some of finest music ever written. As a friend of mine put it "Another hero leaves the stage"...unfortunately so.

Brighton - Right On

Having missed our usual trip to Winchester to witness Chuck and crew perform their usual musical meanderings, this time due to having a gig myself, My (heavily pregnant wife) and I took the choice to try out the Haunt in Brighton. After a good chat with 'Mr Reading' at the Merch desk, we settled in to enjoy The Mission Express. Chuck was wired (Too much sugar I suggested to him later), the band played faultlessly covering not just the new album, but a good selection of older stuff including a great version of Balinese Dancer. James and Chuck followed on with some Wishbone Ash-like duel guitaring. Steph even performed 'Count the days', once again proving that Chuck can indeed count to Seven. A Waylon Jennings tune was played as an encore with an incredibly intimate duet by Steph and Chuck, finishing with a Flaming Groovies number which (for want of a better word) Rocked. After James kindly allowed me to manhandle his Franken-SG Guitar and shot the breeze with me for a little while. Another great performance, we enjoyed our night at the Haunt. Hopefully next time we will be able to attend both gigs in Winchester and Brighton (living conveniently between the two venues), only this time my better half should have shed the stowaway who by the way kicked its way through the gig :o).

Yep, it was a cracker of a gig. So glad Chuck came down 'our way'. So that's New York, London and Brighton [My 3 fave cities] where I've seen CP and The Mission Express. Best live band on the globe I reckon. Thanks for signing [and indeed releasing] the album on vinyl!

It's over...but what a day. 2 storming sets from the Mission Express, I think the afternoon just edged it for me with the surreal wedding party & a monstrous version of 'Fear is a man's best friend'. Look out for the 'Left Hand...' RSD vinyl - any info on the B-side ('I call your name) people?

Amazing day in the Ancient Capital of Wessex....the 'VILLAGE' as Chuck calls it....I was already in seventh heaven before Chuck & Co blasted out the 'Groovies 'Shake Some Action' and managed to grab a few words with Chuck during the interval about seeing San Francisco's living answer to the Juke-Box back in the day....any chance of 'Teenage Head' maybe? H'mmmm... says Chuck.... .....Two hours later with Chuck's cry of "Give Me a G..!" the second magnificent set opens with a blistering version of the Groovies 'Slow Death' (plus an encore of 'Shake Some Action'!) The need to catch our late train meant that I never got to thank Chuck & the Band for yet another incredible gig at The Railway (and a Double-Shift to boot) Here's to a great tour and hope you can get back this way soon.....and do you guys do Bar-Mitzvahs too?

Interesting. I'd never heard Slow Death but now I know what inspired the re-arrangement of CP's own Storm Across the Sea, which is what the second show opened with. Two incredible shows. Chuck thought the energy level was better in the evening, but I didn't feel there was much in it. The wedding interlude was great, with Stephie's rendition of Then He Kissed Me. Of the two epic guitar workouts, I thought Summertime was better in the evening but the PM's You Did had the edge on the second show. Chuck & James are currently taking guitar duels to uncharted territory. Nice to hear S's keyboards more upfront on a number of songs. Kevin great as ever, crazy fingers on Something Stupid. Kyle fits right in and provides spot-on, strong harmonies. Thanks again for the Motorcycle Mama encore! Check out the Cerys Matthews show! And if you didn't catch the band on the first UK leg, consider a road trip north if necessary for the return leg. The band have never sounded this hot.

Their 'Flamin'Groovies' covers are really becoming popular it seems? I'm yet to hear their cover of 'Slow Death' but if its anything like 'Shake some action' then its gotta be cool. That wedding interlude thing sounds bizarre? lol..Great to hear that 'Motorcycle Mama' turned up again in the setlist. Hopefully that'll be featured in the setlist for Nottingham too in a couple of weeks.

I saw Chuck at Dingwalls which was a great evening of live rocking entertainment and then went down to Winchester on the train to see his Saturday afternoon show plus the wedding interlude which added another, very sweet dimension to the proceedings. The band again on storming form covering Billy Swan's "I can Help" and playing a great mix of new and old CP tunes. Amazing how "You did" has become such an essential rousing live number. I've been listening to the last four records and Chuck's flow of great ideas and new tunes is pretty remarkable...so too is his (and the Mission Express) energy levels on this tour, where they seem to be playing every night without break until the 25th of May!...is this just the economics of the situation...what are the economics of bringing a band over to Europe to tour like this or shouldn't I ask? Anyway as ever very grateful to see such a great and inspiring live spectacle twice..the best 30quid I've spent this year.
